Buckit (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Buckit mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our app.
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and username. You can sign up with email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the basic profile information those services provide (name and email). You may optionally add a profile photo.
Phone Number: If you choose to provide your phone number during onboarding or in your profile, we verify it by sending you a one-time SMS code via Twilio. We store your verified phone number solely to help you find friends from your contacts who are also on Buckit. Your phone number is never displayed to other users.
Location Data: We request access to your device's location to provide location-based features such as trending experiences near you, personalized recommendations, and map-based discovery. We store your approximate city and country on your profile, which is updated when your location changes. Your precise coordinates are not stored on your profile and are not continuously tracked in the background. When you create a review, the precise latitude and longitude of the place you reviewed are stored on that place record so it can be displayed on the map — these coordinates describe the place, not your movements.
User-Generated Content: We collect the reviews, ratings, notes, photos, and videos you create and upload, as well as the experiences and places associated with them. We also collect your saved experiences (bookmarks), friend connections, tagged friends on reviews, and the reviews you “like.”
Bulk Import Content: If you use the bulk import feature to add multiple past experiences at once, the text you paste (such as an itinerary or trip notes) is sent to our parsing service, which uses Anthropic's Claude API to extract structured items (activity, location, date, etc.). The pasted text is processed only to produce the parsed items and is not retained beyond that request. You always confirm and edit each parsed item before any review is created.
Reports: If you use the in-app report feature to flag a review, experience, or profile, we collect the reason you select (such as hate speech, harassment, inappropriate content, spam, violence, or “other”) and any optional description you provide.
Camera, Photo Library, and Microphone: When you create reviews, we request access to your device's camera, photo library, and microphone to capture and attach photos and videos. These permissions are only used when you actively choose to add media to a review.
Contacts: If you grant contacts permission, we access your device's contacts solely to find other Buckit users by matching phone numbers. Only phone numbers are sent to our server in a normalized E.164 format for matching. We do not store your full contacts list on our servers, and the phone numbers we receive are not retained after the matching process.
Device Information: We collect your device's push notification token to send you notifications. We do not collect device identifiers for advertising purposes.
Preferences: We store your selected categories of interest, preferred cities, and notification preferences. Notification preferences let you choose whether to receive notifications for friend requests, review tags, when someone saves an experience you posted (“buckited”), when someone likes one of your reviews, and moderation warnings.
Local Storage: The app stores limited data on your device, including cached images to improve performance, your recent search queries, and cached location data. Authentication session tokens are securely stored in your device's Keychain.
We use the information we collect to operate and improve Buckit, including to create and manage your account, display your reviews and profile to other users, provide personalized recommendations and trending content, enable friend discovery and social features, send push notifications you have opted into, moderate content for community safety, review and act on user reports, and respond to support requests.
To maintain a safe community, all user-generated text and images are screened before being published. We use a two-layer approach: first, content is checked against a local filter on your device that blocks prohibited words and phrases; then, content that passes the local filter is sent to OpenAI's moderation service to detect potentially harmful content such as hate speech, harassment, violence, and explicit material. Images sent for moderation are resized and compressed before transmission. Flagged content is blocked from being posted. The local filter is always enforced regardless of network conditions. If the remote moderation service is temporarily unavailable, content that passes the local filter may be allowed through and is subject to later review.
You can also report any review, experience, or profile from within the app. Reports include the reason you selected and any description you added, along with your account ID so we can prevent duplicate reports of the same content. Our team reviews submitted reports and may remove content or take enforcement action as described under “Account Enforcement.”
To help new users explore Buckit, we have pre-populated the app with reviews of well-known places (museums, parks, landmarks, and other notable venues). These reviews are written under a system account (buckit_ai) using AI assistance and are clearly attributed to that account. They do not represent reviews from any real user, and no real user's data is used to generate them.
Your profile information (display name, username, profile photo, city, and country) and your reviews are visible to other Buckit users. Your email address and phone number are never displayed to other users.
We share data with the following third-party services solely to operate the app:
These services process data on our behalf and are governed by their own privacy policies.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not use any third-party analytics or tracking services.
Your data is stored on Supabase's cloud infrastructure. We use row-level security policies, encrypted connections, and secure authentication to protect your data. Media files (photos and videos) are stored in Supabase Storage with access controls. Authentication tokens are stored securely in your device's Keychain.
While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.
We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate our community guidelines. Suspensions may be temporary (with an automatic expiry date) or permanent. While suspended, an account is restricted from posting content but can still view the app. Users are notified of any enforcement actions through in-app notifications, and these notifications can be disabled in your preferences but warnings remain enforceable. We may suspend or terminate accounts based on confirmed user reports, automated moderation flags, or other activity that harms the community or the service.
You can view, edit, or delete your profile information at any time within the app. You can delete your account directly within the app, which will permanently remove your profile, reviews, media, saved experiences, friend connections, likes, notifications, and all associated data from our systems. This action cannot be undone. You can control which push notifications you receive in the app's settings. You can revoke location, contacts, camera, or microphone permissions at any time through your device's settings.
Buckit is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the app or on our website. Your continued use of Buckit after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
